The Benefits of a Walk-in Shower in Your Bathroom

If you’re considering renovating your bathroom you may be considering major things like a stand-alone bath or a walk-in shower. For many small bathroom renovations or remodels a bath isn’t an option, but expanding your shower space into a walk-in shower may well be. Let’s take a look at the benefits of a walk-in shower compared to a cubicle.

Walk-in Showers Look Great

A walk-in shower simply looks great. They open up your bathroom and make it seem more light and spacious. They also create more of a visual impact. Shower cubicles seem very old-fashioned now and very cramped so the open space and sleek lines of a walk-in shower simply look better all round.

Easier Maintenance

Standard shower cubicles tend to have boded floors, hinges, small doors and more crevices and edges around which to clean. Walk-in showers have no floor as it’s usually just part of the normal floor tiles or its own flat tiling and the walls are larger and easier to access.

Harder Wearing

The toughened tempered glass along with the frame and lack of almost any plastic parts means walk-in showers are almost indestructible. Hinges and seals are much tougher and better designed whilst the flooring and walls can use porcelain or ceramic tiles which are incredibly tough. Floor tiles sit on the floor itself instead of a cubicle floor pan which sits above the floor and is weaker and prone to movement. The other thing is that the tile and glass elements will continue to keep their looks for many years compared to plastic cubicles.

Better Use of Space

Because you are only working with screens (and a simple frame) you can place them anywhere and can be any size. Even small bathroom renos can easily accommodate a walk-in shower with a little design. They use the space more wisely as they don’t leave awkward corners or parts of the bathroom unused, it’s all walk-in shower space or the rest of your bathroom. Cubicles can leave unused space due to the restrictions on floor pans and shapes and sizes whereas none of that is an issue for a walking shower.

Downsides

A walk-in shower will almost certainly be more expensive, and for its best placement may well require extra plumbing. But nearly all homeowners agree that the extra cost is easily justified by its long-lasting, practical and beautiful features. For any questions on bathroom design, get in touch with our team.
